Canada Music Week Festival

Dear Teachers, Parents and Students,

We are excited to celebrate Canada Music Week again in November with everyone! I hope you are having fun selecting pieces for your students to perform! The in-person festival will take place on Friday November 24th and Saturday November 25th. The online festival will take place on Saturday November 25th.
There are a few changes to this year’s festival outlined below. We are doing the registration through google forms. Use the following link to register by Wednesday October 25th at 11:59pm as well as please send in the fees to [email protected]. Students with late fees or registration forms will not be allowed to participate.
This year’s festival will be completely non-competitive with the focus on celebrating Canadian Music as well as giving students a performance goal for early in the year. Students will get both written and verbal feedback. They will also all leave with a music book so they can continue to enjoy other Canadian pieces throughout the year!
We are excited to announce our 2023 Canada Music Week Festival adjudicators are Martha Hill Duncan (in-person) and Susan Griesdale (online). Students participating in the online festival will need to submit their unlisted youtube video(s) and music PDFs by Wednesday November 15th 11:59pm at the latest. Students taking part in the virtual festival will have the opportunity to work online with the adjudicator on zoom. Schedules for the in-person and online events will be sent out towards the end of October.
Similar to previous years, students can play one or two pieces. One piece must be by a Canadian composer. Memorization is not mandatory for this event. Do ensure you have an original copy of the music for the adjudicator to look at during the performance.
Fees for the event are as follows:
Beginner to Level 2 – $20
Level 3-5 – $30
Level 6-8 – $40
Level 9 and up – $50
Please add an additional $5 to the payment for students of non-ORMTA members.
Please contact Elanna Clark with any questions at [email protected].
Kind Regards,
Canada Music Week Committee
